On Tuesday evening people living in the Beirut area of Lebanon saw thick smoke rising to the air due to a small explosion. People took out their mobiles to record the thick black smoke rising to the heavens. Together with colourful flashes which seemed to be an explosion from a fireworks warehouse.

At 6.08 pm to be exact the second explosion has occurred. Sending a powerful shock wave across the city of Lebanon. This explosion has toppled cars parked miles away. And shake massive buildings and spread glass and other debris all over the city of Beirut. The second explosion in Beirut was so powerful and it has made a massive sturdy building collapse to the ground in a matter of seconds. The aftermath of the unbelievable nightmare covered all the surrounding streets in debris. This resulted in the wounded having to walk towards health facilities. The explosion has killed almost 100 people and almost 4500 injured. But these numbers tend to rise as search operations are carried out to find for bodies.

The second massive explosion that happened in Beirut Lebanon was even heard in the country of Cyprus. Which is located almost 100 miles away from the city of Beirut

What caused the massive destructive explosion in Beirut?

The reason for this powerful explosion in Beirut is a massive stock of ammonium nitrate. Which was confiscated from a ship in 2015. Lebanon authorities reported that there were almost 2750 metric tons of ammonium nitrate stored in that particular warehouse. This is the same compound that is used to make bombs as well.

In a statement released to television, the Prime Minister of Lebanon stated: “I will not relax until we find the responsible party for what happened, hold it accountable and apply the most serious punishments against it because it isn’t acceptable that a shipment of ammonium nitrate — estimated to be 2,750 tons — was in a depot for the past six years without precautionary measures being taken.”

With regards to the explosion in Beirut The Americans suspect it was a planned attack of some sort. President Trump state that the explosion was a result as “It was a bomb of some kind.”

Aid for the people of Beirut in Lebanon

The European have jumped in promptly to offer a helping hand to Lebanon. Countries of Netherlands, Greece, Czech Republic, France, Poland and Germany have come forwards to offer aid.

The French have taken the leading role by almost instantly putting together an aid package. Which will include two military planes and tons of equipment that is useful to the people of Beirut in Lebanon that are suffering from the results of the explosion that took place last Tuesday.
