As researchers work overtime to develop a vaccine for Covid-19. They are burdened with fighting a cyber-attack, allegedly carried out by Russian hackers. The Russian hackers have launched several cyber-attacks on US, UK, and Canadian academic and pharmaceutical research institutions with the prime motive of stealing the Covid-19 vaccine.

UK’s National Cyber Security Centre, Canada’s Communication Security Establishment, the US Cyber Security Infrastructure Security Agency and the National Security Agency issued a joint statement that Russian hackers are responsible for these cyber-attacks.
Who exactly are these Russian hackers
The relevant authorities have identified and pinned the attacks on the hacking group APT29, which is also known as Cozy Bear. American cybersecurity company Crowdstrike initially identified as a threat in 2014. Incidentally, this happens to be the same group of hackers responsible for the hacking of the Democratic Email Accounts during the 2016 USA presidential election. They were also held accountable for the cyber-attack on Norway’s defense and foreign ministries in 2016. The most controversial topic is that the Cozy bear is suspected to be a hacking group connected to Russian Intelligence.
How the Russians responded to the accusations made by UK and USA officials
Disgusted by the actions of the Russians for carrying out such activities amidst a global pandemic, British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab has issued a statement that investigations on this matter are in progress.
He also quoted “ It is completely unacceptable that the Russian intelligence services are targeting those working to combat the coronavirus pandemic.”
They are still not sure whether the most sensitive information related to the Corona vaccine has been stolen by this Russian hacker group identified as Cozy Bear.
The harsh allegations and accusations directed at the Russians have evoked a prompt response from the Russian government. President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, has rejected the accusations, stating, “We don’t have any information about who may have hacked the pharmaceutical companies and research centers in Britain. To further concrete his statement Peskov rejected the accusations and denied responsibility for the cyber-attacks stating “We may say one thing: Russia has nothing to do with those attempts.”
